Zio Bio
Artist

Zio BioZiegler is an emerging contemporary artist whose work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions on the West and East Coast. In addition to paintings, he has also been recognized for his outdoor installation-based murals which, typically monochromatic with a distinct tribal-like aesthetic, can currently be seen at a variety of highly trafficked locations across San Francisco, including Sycamore Street at Mission, on Market between 7th and 8th, and on the front of the Ian Ross Gallery at 4th and Brannan. Though his inspirations are ever changing, Ziegler’s work is currently influenced by Eastern philosophy, French modernism, Egyptology, Xavier Veilhan, Auguste Rodin, Thomas Houseago, Eddy Martinez and Georges Braque.

Ziegler’s work, a subconscious expression of how he views the world, catalyzes self-exploration and provides a portal for viewers to get lost within. His paintings are meant to be a starting point through which the viewer can be transported, triggering individual memories and experiences while challenging a deeper dig into the psyche. Ziegler draws with his paintbrush rather than paints with it, producing a primitive style rooted in line as a way to suggest movement and form.

Ziegler studied at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where he graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in painting. Ziegler, who has a studio in Mill Valley, is also the founder of Arte Sempre, a lifestyle and clothing brand that makes his art accessible to the public. His work is focused on movement and self-reflection, influenced by a multitude of styles, including classicism, cubism, futurism and primitivism.
